If Karanji, as part of Mysore Zoo, can be developed as a small bird sanctuary, Kukkarahalli, in view of its ideal location near the University, could have a small academic and research centre on Mysore lakes. Books, photographs, maps and the like could be collected and kept there for study and research. There are a number of writers who have written about the beauty of the Kukkarahalli lake, including Kuvempu and R.K.Narayan. Why not make a collection of those
literary pieces which tell the glory of the lake? With such attractions, Kukkarahalli can be projected as a lake studies centre.

An item about the Kukkarahalli elsewhere on this site touched on the issue as to how it came under the university jurisdiction. The fact is, the lake was handed over to the Mysore University by the Mysore City Corporation when Dr. K.L.Shrimali was the Vice-Chancellor. He had started NCC naval training there. After he left, the lake was neglected. I feel that apart from developing the lake and horticulture around it, there should be an appropriate small building and make a collection of historical references to the lakes in Mysore.
